What is Accreditation?

In the world of post-secondary education, accreditation is achieved by an institution that meets the quality standards and fulfills the requirements set by the appropriate accreditation organization. 

Accreditation affirms that the institution operates with a high level of quality in all its aspects, including academic quality, administrative effectiveness, facilities, resources, and student services. 

In Canada, post-secondary education is under provincial control. Each Canadian province is responsible for regulating the quality standards of its institutions.

In British Columbia, private institutions that have been reviewed by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA) and have succeeded in meeting the requirements of the PCTIA accreditation process may be referred to as “accredited.”

What is PCTIA?

The Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA) operates under the authority of the Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development. PCTIA is the accreditation agency for private career training institutions offering non-degree programs in BC.

PCTIA accredited institutions are eligible to apply for StudentAid BC designation.
