AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE STUDIES

Program Description

The Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Studies at Dorset College is an 8-month program that consists of specially designed courses in aviation science, technical communications, English interactions, and oral English. This program has been approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

 This certificate program enables international students to:

  • Strengthen their written and oral English skills;
  • Learn basic applied aviation technical skills as well as theory;
  • Gain preparation before transferring to the practical Diploma program.

Program Length

8 months

Program Requirements

High school diploma. Students are asked to provide one of the following:

  1. Two years of education in English in an English-speaking country with one of the following:
    1. English 12 (50%) or
    2. Communications 12 (67%)
  2. IELTS Minimum overall band test score of 6.0
  3. TOEFL
    1. Minimum score of 80 (internet based)
    2. Minimum score of 213 (computer based)
    3. Minimum score of 550 (paper based)
  4. Successfully complete (85%) of the Dorset College Academic Preparation Program
  5. Sufficient score (70%) of Dorset College English Proficiency Examination
  6. Successfully complete (70%) of Dorset College ENGL 099 (University English Skills III) course
  7. Versant English Placement Test – Minimum score of 61
  8. Duolingo English Test – Minimum score of 110

*Note: Students must complete each of the required courses at Dorset College with a minimum grade of 70%

 

Upon successful completion of the Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Studies (AMS) at Dorset College, students are guaranteed transfer to the Aviation’s Technician - Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME Cat-M) diploma program at the University of the Fraser Valley.
