Cape Breton University visited Dorset College
Mr. Ed Grimm, Special Advisor from Cape Breton University visited Dorset in April 2009. He also gave a presentation to a large group of students and answered individual student questions.

Dalhousie University visited Dorset College
Mr. Shawn Tracey, Assistant Registra visited Dorset College on May 11, 2009. He also gave a presentation to a large group of students and answered individual student questions.
Dorset College instructors presenting at Annual BC TEAL
Two Dorset instructors in the BCIT Aircraft Maintenance Engineering program, Mr. Andrew Spence and Ms. Kathy Shantz, were recently presenters at the 41st annual BC TEAL (BC Teachers of English as an Additional Language) conference at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Their presentation, "Critical Reading Connections between ESP students and their Professions", used authentic video and online newspaper articles to instruct and engage a professional audience in collaborative academic analysis technqiues and a critical analysis of content related to the aviation industry. These techniques, used in Ms. Shantz's English Interactions course, have emerged from professional collaboration between Ms. Shantz and Mr. Spence, who teaches the Aviation Science course. The two instructors have received positive feedback for their efforts, and are planning to present at more conferences in the future.

Dorset College signs partnership agreement with UBC Okanagan
On August 27th, 2008, Eddy Cheng, Dorset's President, and Russell Thornton, Dorset's Vice-President (Academic), visited the beautiful UBC Okanagan campus in Kelowna, BC, where Mr. Eddy Cheng signed the agreement with Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz, Provost of UBCO, and Dr. Ian Stuart, Dean of the UBCO Faculty of Management.
The Dorset College -- UBC Okanagan agreement means that Dorset students who successfully complete the new Dorset -- UBCO "2+2" Program will be permitted to transfer two years of "block" Dorset credit to UBCO. These Dorset students will enter directly into the third year of study in the Bachelor's Degree program in the UBCO Faculty of Management.
The Dorset -- UBCO "2+2" Program promises to be a popular one with Dorset students. The University of British Columbia is the largest post-secondary institution in BC and is one of the most respected institutions in Canada. Dorset is extremely pleased with the agreement and is looking forward to the success of the Dorset -- UBCO "2+2" Program. On the occasion of the signing of the agreement, Dr. Ian Stuart wrote: "We are equally pleased with the signed agreement to block transfer successful Dorset students (as per the agreement) into our Management program at UBCO beginning September 2009. I am sure this will be a beneficial agreement for both parties."

Bus Trip to University of British Columbia Okanagan
On October 25th, 2008, nearly 50 people including students, instructors, and staff from Dorset College visited the main campus of University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) in Kelowna. Ms. Terri Flanagan, the International Student Advisor at UBCO, gave us a warm welcome on behalf of the School of Management. Together with Ms. Terri Flanagan, current UBCO Management students also greeted everyone from Dorset College and provided us with a tour of the campus, the library, the gymnasium, and other facilities at UBCO.
UBCO's School of Management also hosted a lovely lunch for everyone that was there for the visit. During lunch, Dorset College students, instructors, and staff had the opportunity to speak with Ms. Terri Flanagan and the current UBCO Management students.
We also enjoyed a tour around downtown Kelowna and a visit to Lake Okanagan. The trip was a great success! Click here for the trip photos!

In October, a student representative from Acadia University visited Dorset College and gave a presentation to a large group of students and answered individual student questions.
Dean of Cape Breton University visited Dorset College
On August 1st, 2008, Mr. John MacKinnon, Dean of Business School at Cape Breton University visited Dorset.
Mr. MacKinnon spoke highly about Dorset/CBU partnership, saying that "The transfer arrangement can only be described as a successful one for the Business School and we look forward to continuing to welcome students from Dorset in the future."

Acadia Representative
In February, Dorset College welcomed Ms.Shawna Garrett- Executive Director, Enrolment Services -Acadia University.
Ms. Garrett gave a presentation to a large group of students and answered individual student questions prior to attending a Meet and Greet at the Plaza 500 Hotel.

In February, Dorset College welcomed Mr. Shea Mcinnis Director of Recruitement- Marketing- Cape Breton University.
Mr. Mcinnis gave a presentation about CBU's Bachelor of Business Admisnistion Degree and their Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Degree.
Education Allowance Seminar
Dorset College hosted an Educational Allowance Seminar during which a presentation was given and a question and answer period was held with regards to a new provinical government education allowance.

BCIT/Dorset College Audit
BCIT conducted an internal audit of the Dorset College AME programs in October 2007. The auditor found that "Dorset College is generally performing in compliance with the terms identified in the Joint Trades Agreement". Additionally the auditor was "impressed by the commitment and dedication" of the Dorset staff throughout the process.
University of Canada West
UCW was approved in October 2007, by DQAB, to offer courses at the Dorset College campus.

Visit to Korea
Ms. Eun Jung Kim, Dorset College’s Korean Marketing Manager travelled to Korea to meet with some of Korea’s top agencies: Canada Friends, IAE Edunet, Kimokran.
BCIT Representatives
Dorset College welcomed some representatives from BCIT to finalize the details with regards to the Airport Operations Program which will be offered in January 2008.
TOEFL Testing Centre
Dorset College was approved by ETS to be an official TOFEL testing centre in Vancouver.
St. John’s International High school
Dorset College’s sister high school St. John’s International high school moved into the Dorset building in August.

Airport Operations- Diploma of Technical Studies
The new program
Airport Operations was introduced in Dec2006. This BCIT
/Dorset College program provides international students with
an exciting challenge. This program is offered in two
phases. The first phase is the pre-diploma phase which is 26
weeks long and takes place at Dorset College. The second
phase is the Diploma phase. This 16 month program is
completed at BCIT. International students are required to
complete the Pre-Diploma Phase at Dorset College before
transferring to BCIT to complete the Airport Operations
Program.

An Acadia representative visited Dorset
College and did a presentation about Acadia’s Bachelor of
Business Administration Degree and the Acadia Advantage.
Halloween
Staff, instructors and students dressed up in
Halloween costumes and went trick or treating to the office
where they received Halloween candies and chocolates.

Dorset College celebrated Christmas by
decorating the school and putting out Christmas chocolates and
candies for everyone.

instructor a moon cake to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Promotional Tour to China
During the month of
July, Ms. Tania Sherwood, Cape Breton University Vancouver
Program Director and Ms. Vivien Wen, Dorset College’s Admissions
Director went on a promotional tour around China. They attended
numerous educational fairs and made presentations in over 10
cities in China.
Hospitality and Tourism Management Program
The 3 year Hospitality
and Tourism Management Program can now be completed by doing 1 ˝
years at Dorset College followed by 1 ˝ years at CBU main
campus.
Picnic
Dorset College held
its first Summer Picnic in Stanley Park. On a warm and sunny
June day; staff, instructors and students gathered for great BBQ
food and fun interactive games.

Our Partner Universities provide the exciting news during our Spring 2006 semester.
CBU Dignitaries Visit
In February Cape Breton University Vice-President, Development, Dr. Brown, met with the students of the CBU Vancouver Program. He spoke about Cape Breton University and its future plans, as well as Cape Breton the place. This presentation was followed by a question and answer period. He then had lunch with 2 of the Chinese Education Consuls, Mr. Xia and Mr. Xue.
On March 15 Mr. Karaphillis, MBA Director of Cape Breton University gave a presentation to CBU and Dorset College students about the CBU MBA program.
On Tuesday, March 21 Cape Breton University Vancouver held a reception in honour of visiting CBU President, Dr. Harker, and Dean of the School of Business,
Mr. Grimm. Both CBU and Dorset College students, faculty and staff were invited to attend.
Dr. Harker and Mr. Grimm also met with the Chinese Education Consuls while they were here.
Brock University Deans Interview Potential MBA Students
On March 16 and 17 Brock University Dean and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business, Mr. Kusy and Mr. Cyr respectively, visited and for the first time interviewed our students for admission into the MBA Program at Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario. They were impressed with the quality of our students and have said they will come back regularly to Dorset College. This provides yet another partner school for our students.
Sports Scholarship Announced
Cape Breton University has announced a sports scholarship competition for those Dorset College transfer students who have participated on soccer or basketball teams at the highest level in their home countries. The competition is open equally to male and female athletes. The scholarship would allow winning students to study at CBU main campus as well as participate on CBU nationally ranked sports teams.

Dorset College is pleased to announce that our students met with the President of the People's Republic of China. Dorset College was the only school in Vancouver to be invited by the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver to welcome the President of People's Republic of China, Hu, Jingtao. Dorset College arranged over 250 Chinese students to attend the event.
On September 18 Dorset College handed out moon cakes to students and staff in celebration of the Chinese Moon Festival.
Four Dorset College students were invited to attend a dinner at the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver in appreciation for Dorset's participation in the welcoming of the President of the People's Republic of China. The students included Simon Lu, Andy Liu, Maggie Zhang, and Ma Hua Qiu.

Tania Sherwood, Cape Breton University Vancouver Program Director and Vivien Wen, Dorset College Admissions Director went on a promotional tour around China. Ms. Wen and Ms. Sherwood participated in an education fair in Beijing as well as in various seminars partnership development projects around the country.
Dorset College moved into an independent 3-storey campus located at 1885 West Broadway and Cypress.

CBU Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management
CBU will offer a 3-year Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Degree. CBU is the only university in Canada where this program can be completed in three years. Qualified students will be able to complete one year (10 courses) at Dorset College, and then transfer to CBU in Sydney, Nova Scotia to complete the remaining two years (20 courses).
Immigrant Status Information
For correct information, please visit the official Canadian Immigration website at:
www.cic.gc.ca. In most cases, the only legitimate way for students to obtain immigrant status is to first obtain a Bachelor's degree from a public Canadian university before applying for immigration into Canada.
Dalhousie University Transfer Program News
Dorset College has formed a partnership with Dalhousie University, a top Canadian public university. Students now have the opportunity to take first year science courses at Dorset College before transferring to Dalhousie University. Dorset College had the pleasure of hosting two separate visits from Dalhousie University faculty including Mr. Vadivel, Manager of Undergraduate Recruitment, in November and January's visit by Dr. Retallack, Assistant Dean Student Affairs, and Mr. Tracey, Assistant Registrar Admissions.
BCIT Work Permits
Good news! Most of the students who transferred from Dorset College to BCIT at the beginning of August have received their work permits. They are now able to complete the required 36 weeks of work experience in Canada. Congratulations!
Dorset Basketball Team
The Dorset student basketball team beat both SFU and UBC in winning second place in the basketball tournament hosted by the UBC Chinese Students and Scholars Association. 20 teams participated in the tournament, which was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Consulate General of the PRC in Vancouver.
Acadia University Transfer Program News
In December, Dorset College was visited by the President and Vice-Chancellor of Acadia University, Dr. Dinter-Gottlieb, and the Vice-President of Alumni and Development, Mr. Gilmour. Dr. Dinter-Gottlieb and Mr. Gilmour were toured around the Dorset College City Square and West Broadway campuses and dined with several Acadia University Transfer Program students. Also in December, Acadia University representative, Mr. Meister, hosted an information session in December at Dorset College.
CBU MBA Transfer Program News
Dr. MacIntyre, Director of the Community Economic Development (CED) Institute & MBA in CED Program returned to Dorset College in January to meet with the Pre-Master students and host an MBA (CED) information session.

Donation to Red Cross
Dorset College donated $2000 to the Canadian Red Cross for its efforts in South Asia after the Tsunami in December 2004.
Hospitality and Tourism Management Degree Program
On April 8, 2005 Dorset College signs an agreement with Cape Breton University providing students with the opportunity to study in the 3-year Hospitality and Tourism Management Degree Program. Under this agreement, students complete a one year diploma at Dorset College and transfer to the Cape Breton University main campus to complete the final two years of their degree.

Great news for UT students! Dorset College has formed a partnership with Dalhousie University, a top Canadian public university. Students will have the opportunity to take first-year courses, including Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Computer Sciences, that they will be able to transfer to the Dalhousie Faculty of Science.

Acadia University Information Session On
Thursday, May 13th, Shawna Garrett, Director of Enrollment Management for Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, hosted an information session at the Vancouver Public Library for all interested students regarding the Dorset College University Transfer Program to Acadia. The program allows qualified students to transfer directly to Acadia to complete a Canadian public university degree after completing the required number of courses in the Dorset College University Transfer Program. The in-depth multimedia presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session where Ms. Garrett answered all student inquiries regarding the university.
Charity BBQ
On Friday, May 14th, the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion charity organization held a fundraising BBQ at the City Square Mall. Students and staff were treated to a free BBQ lunch on behalf of Dorset College, who made a contribution to the organization. All money raised goes towards helping to improve the quality of life for people with spinal cord injury.
Opening Ceremony and Scholarship News
The Dorset College Opening Ceremony welcoming students to the May 2004 semester was held on May 4th on the City Square lawn. New and returning students were in attendance, as well as all Dorset staff and teachers. Academic Director Martin Misfeldt gave a speech regarding the valuable qualities of English as a second language, and the importance of hard work and academic success.
Scholarships were awarded to a record number of students in recognition of their high academic achievement and positive contribution to Dorset College. Acadia University Information Session

The presentation gave students an opportunity to view all aspects of life on the Acadia campus, including the Acadia Advantage Program, that provides every student with a notebook computer for the duration of their studies.
Nearly 30 Dorset students have applied for the September 2004 semester and so far all applicants have been accepted.

Vancouver Police Department Safety Seminar
On Thursday, May 20th, Vancouver Police Constable Ian Carter hosted a safety seminar at Dorset College for international students. Constable Carter provided students with important information on how to keep safe in Vancouver, including what to do to protect themselves, and who to call in case of emergency.

Free Classes !!
Dorset College is offering two free classes this semester. No sign-up is required. Classes will be held from Monday to Thursday in Room 219 at the following times:

Charity BBQ
On Friday, May 14th, the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion charity organization held a fundraising BBQ at the City Square Mall. Students and staff were treated to a free lunch on behalf of Dorset College, who made a contribution to the organization. All money raised will go towards helping to improve the quality of life for people with spinal cord injury.
Immigrant Status Information
There is so much misleading information regarding how international students can obtain Immigrant Status faster. For correct information, please visit the official Canadian
Immigration website at: http://www.cic.gc.ca/. In most cases, the only legitimate way for students to obtain Immigrant Status is to first obtain a Bachelor's degree from a public Canadian university before applying for immigration in Canada.

Dorset A.M.E. students transfer to BCIT
Congratulations to another group of A.M.E. students who completed the Pre-Diploma phase of the A.M.E. program at Dorset College and successfully transferred to BCIT in April. 15 students completed the transfer and are now completing their diploma at BCIT's School of Transportation.
Chinese Spring Festival Celebration
On February 5, the Dorset College Student Association cooked dumplings for all students and staff for the Chinese Spring Festival.
Hemlock Valley Ski Trip
On February 12, 98 Dorset students joined the ski adventure on Hemlock Mountain. The sun was shining and the snow was in excellent condition.
17 students accepted the challenge to go to the very top of the mountain for a group photograph. AME Instructor Andrew Spence, who went with the group, commented that "It was one of the best days of skiing I have experienced in more than twenty years!"

Opening Ceremony
The Opening Ceremony was held on September 9, 2003 at Dorset College, welcoming students and staff to the fall academic semester. The ceremony involved the introduction of all administrative staff as well as Dorset teachers and their respective courses. 10 Qualified students were awarded a Dorset College scholarship; the highest amount awarded totalled $1000.00. Each student delivered an acceptance speech after having received their scholarship.
Scholarship recipients were: Kevin Sun, Nancy Hu, Jason Yang, Klarke Tian, Ariel Wan, Donna Mi, Maggie Zhang, Shawn Wang, Maggie Zhu, and Cece Wong.
Second Group of students transfer to Cape Breton University for MBA
Congratulations to the second group of Dorset College Pre-Master students who successfully transferred to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at the Cape Breton University in September 2003.
Students transfer to Acadia University
The first group of Dorset College students was accepted into Acadia University in September 2003 for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Program. The Dorset-Acadia Transfer Agreement enabled every student to transfer course credits taken at Dorset College and enter into either second or third year at Acadia University. Congratulations to the following students: Jerry Chen, Zoe Chen, Maggie Dong, Jenny Fang, Levi Gu, Nick Jiang, Jenny Wang, Kimberley Xu, Daisy Yu, Becky Zhang, and Ji Zhang.
Chinese Moon Festival
On September 11, 2003 the Dorset Student Association handed out moon cakes to students and staff in celebration of the Chinese Moon Festival.
Second group of Dorset AME students transfer to BCIT
In October 2003, the second group of students studying in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) Program successfully completed the Pre-Diploma Phase of the AME program at Dorset College in September. 12 students transferred to BCIT's School of Transportation for the Diploma Phase of the AME Program.
Volunteering
In November 2003, Dorset College students volunteered for the Vancouver Storytelling Festival at the Vancouver Museum. Over 60 students volunteered for the festival over a period of three days.
Public Speaking Contest
The Public Speaking Contest ran through the second week of October 2003 with 3 levels and over 15 student participants. Public speaking topics ranged from "Life In Their Home Country " to "How To Cope With Stress". The first place prizes were Sony Discmans, the second place prizes were CD's, the third place prizes were c.d. cases, and the rest of the participants received a book on English Writing skills.
The First North American Private School Parents Meeting in China
Throughout the month of October 2003 Admission Director Vivien Wen, Dorset College Counsellor Sophie Bao, and Vice President Dr. Chuck went on the first North American private school Parent Meeting to China. This meeting toured Beijing, Yantai, and Shanghai. The Parent Meeting introduced the Dorset College programs (University Preparation and Transfer Program, Pre-Master Program, etc.) as well as the various opportunities Dorset affords its students. Further information given was with regards to how parents can help their children settle into academic and personal life in Canadian culture. Dorset College prepared a VCD as a gift for each parent who attended the meeting. The VCD content was comprised of interviews with students and various clips of events at Dorset College. Approximately 300 Dorset College parents attended the meetings, coming from all around China.
Halloween Party
Dorset College Student Association successfully organized a Halloween party for all staff and students on October 31, 2003. The Halloween party included a dancing room with music, a games room, a pumpkin carving contest, and a movie room. The Student Association decorated the entire school with festive decorations and gave out candies to students.
Automotive Service Technician (AST) Program
In Nov 2003, Dorset College signed an agreement with the BCIT School of Transportation to offer the Auto Service Technician (AST) program for international students. All international students are required to take the first phase at Dorset College before entering BCIT to complete the program.
Low Attendance
Due to severely low attendance eight Dorset College students were expelled at the end of October 2003. Students with low attendance were given a warning, which was also forwarded to their parents as well as Immigration Canada.
Excellent Attendance
The attendance records within the University Preparation (UP) program (DC100-600) have significantly increased over the last few semesters! Students who attend over 95% of their classes are awarded the 'Attendance Award,.
From September to October 2003, an incredible 41% of Dorset students had over 95% attendance, 14% amount had 100% attendance, and 90% was the average attendance rate. Congratulations to all the hard working Dorset College students!
The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and University Transfer students always keep an attendance record above 90%.
Christmas Party Over 300 students attended the annual Dorset College Christmas Party at a restaurant in Richmond.

Opening Ceremony
Dorset College held an opening semester ceremony on May 9, 2003 for new and returning students. The ceremony took place at the Vancouver City Square campus. During the ceremony, which consisted of information sessions regarding life in Canada and at Dorset College, a presentation was made to Dorset College scholarship winners from the previous semester. The January semester scholarship winners consisted of a large group of deserving Dorset students. The winners were all selected because of their high academic achievements, exemplary attendance records and strong scholarship applications. Each scholarship recipient made an acceptance speech upon receiving his/her award in front of an assembly of teachers, staff and fellow students. High school scholarship recipients, Frank Zhao and Carmen Torres, were presented with their awards at a separate ceremony.
Scholarship recipients are: Ruilin Liu, Monica Zhong, Marco Mak, Maggie Zhu, Alex Chen, Carl Guo, Kelvin Wang, Jae-Won Lee, Sunny Zhang, Leo Lv, Frank Zhao, and Carmen Torres.
Volunteering
In July 2003, Dorset College students volunteered at the Canada Day celebration at Canada Place. Over 100 students helped out at this event.
Cape Breton University's MBA Program
Good news for both current and future Dorset College pre-master's students! Dorset College is proud to announce that our pre-masters students can now transfer to the public Canadian University of the Cape Breton University for the Master of Business Administration (CED) program. Congratulations to the following five students who have started their MBA studies on July 2, 2003 in Cape Breton University: Trista Chai, Wei Song, Alpha Gong, Yang Du, and Fish Tao.
Prefect Attendance Award
Attendance statistics continued to considerably increase in the May to June 2003 semester to an 88% average rate for UP students. 14% of students attended 100% of their classes. Students who attend 100% of their classes are awarded the Dorset College Perfect Attendance Award where-in students receive two free movie passes and snack vouchers. Dorset College students who attend over 90% of their classes are also awarded an "Attendance Award" of one free movie pass. Over 35% of the Dorset student population has been given a "Perfect Attendance Award" for the May 2003 semester.
Students transfer to UCC
In May 2003 the first group of Dorset College students transferred to the University College of the Cariboo (UCC) for the Bachelor of Science (Computing) Program through the Dorset-UCC Transfer Agreement.
Cape Breton University and Dorset visit China
In early August 2003, the Cape Breton University and Dorset College began a two-week tour of China to promote both the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) Transfer Agreements between the two schools. The touring group included Tania Sherwood, Chairperson for International Business/School of Business of Cape Breton University and Vivien Wen, Admissions Director of Dorset College. The promotional tour visited such provinces as provinces as Beijing, Shanghai, Hohhot, Shijia Zhuang, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Yangcheng, etc.
Dorset visits Acadia University
In August 2003, Dorset College Admissions Coordinator, Anna Murray, traveled to Acadia University with the Dorset Transfer students in order to meet with Shawna Garrett, Director of Enrollment at Acadia University, and Anne Scott, Manager of Admissions, as well as to help the students settle into their University environment.

Opening Ceremony
Dorset College celebrated the New Year with an opening semester ceremony held at the Plaza 500 Hotel on January 10, 2003. Guest Speakers included: Mimi Maung from Simon Fraser University International; Monica Zhong, President of the Dorset Student Association; and former Dorset students Clark Zheng and Sabrina Wang, who currently study at SFU and UBC.
Speeches made by Dorset faculty included: Mr. Lewis, High School Vice-Principal; Ms. Liu, Head of the English Department; Ms, Dueck, University Transfer Program Coordinator; James Fong, Head of the A.M.E. Program; and Assen Gadjalov, Head of the School of Drama.
Mr. Hans Turteltaub, Vice-Principal of Dorset High School, presented scholarship awards at the ceremony to a group of dedicated students who were recognized for their academic and personal achievements.

Acadia University
Dorset College has recently entered into an agreement with Acadia University wherein students will be able to study for 2 years at Dorset College and then transfer to Acadia University in Nova Scotia to complete a Bachelor's Degree. Founded in 1838, Acadia University has succeeded in providing over 160 years of quality education. For the 9th consecutive year, Maclean's Canada's national news magazine Chas ranked Acadia as the Best Overall primarily undergraduate university in its annual reputational survey.
Volunteering
In February 2003, Dorset College students sold books at a Chinese New Year Festival in order to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Association (CCA). Approximately 25 students helped the CCA at this event.
Kwantlen University College
Dorset College has recently entered into an agreement with Kwantlen University College wherein students will have the opportunity to complete the required courses at Dorset College and transfer to Kwantlen to complete a Bachelor's Degree. Kwantlen is the largest Canadian university college, offering 4 campuses in British Columbia (Richmond, Surrey, Newton, and Langley).
Excellent Attendance
From the March to April 2003 semester the University Preparation (UP) average attendance rate for students was 85%. While 32% of the UP students attended above 95% of their classes, 10% of students attended 100% of their classes and were awarded the "Prefect Attendance Award".

AME students to study at BCIT
A group of students studying in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Program will successfully complete the Pre-Diploma Phase of the AME program at Dorset College in September. Thirteen students are expected to transfer to BCIT's School of Transportation for the Diploma Phase of the AME Program at the end of October.
Dorset visits UCC
On October 14-15, five Dorset students were invited to go to UCC in Kamloops, BC with Dorset Director, Mr. Cheng, and Program Coordinator, Ms. Dueck. Students attended the opening ceremony of a new building on the UCC campus and the groundbreaking of the new International Building. Students also had a chance to take pictures with the Honorary Shirley Bond, Minister of Education, to explore the campus, and to meet the President of the University.
Students transfer to the University of Manitoba
At the beginning of September, seventeen Dorset students who had completed the two-year Business Administration Diploma in the Post-Secondary Program, successfully transferred to the I. H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba to complete their Bachelor's Degrees in Commerce.
Halloween at Dorset
On October 31, 2002, Dorset students were invited to enter a Halloween pumpkin-carving contest and face painting party. Winners of the carving contest were awarded Halloween prizes.
Dorset and SFU visit China
For the month of September, Dorset Admissions Director, Ms. Wen, and Associate Director of the SFU International Program, Mr. Pather, went on a promotional tour of China. Ms. Wen and Mr. Pather visited several cities including: Beijing, He Fei, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Huhehaote, Nanjing, Ningbo, Hangzhou, etc.
Full Moon Festival Dinner at the Urban Buffet
On September 19, 2002, Dorset staff and students enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner at The Urban Buffet, in downtown Vancouver, in celebration of the Full Moon Festival.
Dinner at the Chinese Consulate
On September 21, 2002, Dorset students were invited to the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver, BC for a celebration of the Full Moon Festival. Students enjoyed a traditional Chinese dinner and had pictures taken with Zhou, Yuan Ming, the Consul General of the Chinese Consulate.
McGill University visits Dorset College
McGill University is ranked as the number one Canadian university for highest quality and is the only Canadian university to be ranked among the top universities in North America. Dorset offers qualifying students the chance to apply for a McGill scholarship. On November 22nd, 2002, Mrs. Mayhew, Senior Admissions Officer at McGill University, held an information session for Dorset students and staff. Mrs. Mayhew explained the general admission requirements for her highly ranked university, gave out information packages to all the students, and warmly welcomed questions on a variety of topics related to McGill University.
Dorset College hosts Christmas Dinner Party
On December 16, 2002, the Dorset College Student Association organized a Christmas dinner party for students, staff, teachers, special guests, and sponsors. The evening consisted of a buffet-style dinner, dancing, games, and prizes. Honourable guests included: Mr. Raymond Chan, Ambassador to Canada; Vice Consul from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China; and Mr. Daniel Lee, former Vancouver City Council member. Media sponsors included: Mr. Jack Tao, Chief Editor of China Economic Newspaper; and Mr. Junbo, Chief Editor of Maple Family Magazine. Prizes were donated by: Silkway Travel, Purple Grape wine shop, Manisha Whitlock's precious crystals, and the Dorset College Student Association. The party was a huge success with over 400 guests, and Dorset looks forward to having another Christmas celebration next year!

Université Laval
Dorset College and Université Laval of Quebec have entered into an agreement whereby students who have completed beginner and intermediate-level French courses at Dorset College can transfer to Laval and study advanced French courses. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to study French in Canada, and for students who have previously taken French as a Second Language courses.
SFU English Bridge Program
A group of Dorset College's strongest academic students have been admitted into the English Bridge Program at Simon Fraser University. Dorset College wishes these fourteen students much success as they continue to work hard towards fulfilling their academic goals.
City University
Dorset College has entered into an agreement with City University, one of North America's largest non-profit universities. Students who have completed their first and second years of study at Dorset College can transfer to the City University campus in Vancouver to study for their Bachelor's degree in a variety of programs. Students in Dorset College's Master's Degree Transfer Program can transfer to City University and study Marketing, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Managerial Leadership, Human Resource Management, General Management, E-Commerce and Financial Management.
BCIT and Dorset College Promotional Tour of China
In early April, BCIT and Dorset College began a two-week tour of China to promote the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Programme. The touring group included BCIT representatives Lane Trotter, Dean of BCIT's School of Transportation, and Associate Deans Ron Evans and Dave Mitchell. Together with a Dorset College representative, the tour visited ten Chinese cities including Beijing, Qindao, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Ningbo and Hangzhou.
