PREPARATION FOR GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICANTS (PGSA)

Program Description

The PGSA program is unique program provided only by Dorset College. This program is intended for international students who have already completed an undergraduate degree in their home country and are now planning to do a Master’s degree in Canada or the US. This program provides students with an opportunity to improve their English skills while preparing students for entrance into a graduate program at a North American university.

Upon successfully completion of this program (8 courses) with sufficient GPA and other requirements will be eligible to enter the MBA program provided by out partnering universities.

This program has been approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

8 months

Program Requirements

Academic: Students must hold a Bachelor's Degree

English requirement: Students are asked to provide official documents showing one of the following:

  • LPI - min score of 4
  • BC High school Grade 12 English - min grade of C
  • BC High school Grade 12 Communications - min grade of B
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) English Language A (higher level) - min mark of 5
  • IELTS - min overall band test score of 6.0 with no band test score below 5.5
  • TOEFL - IBT - 80 / ICT - 213 / IPT - 550

Students who cannot provide documentation that they meet any of the above requirements must

either:

  • UNIVERSITY TRANSFER:
    • Successfully complete (65%) of the Dorset College Academic Preparation Program; or
    • Sufficient score (50%) on the Dorset College English Proficiency Examination
  • TECHNICAL:
    • Successfully complete (85%) in the Dorset College Academic Preparation Program; or
    • Sufficient score (70%) on the Dorset College English Proficiency Examination
